Winter has arrived

Starting to clear out the plants that were frozen.

Clearing the beds of the frozen plants. Ace is keeping me company.

Several below freezing days in a row nailed the broccoli and cauliflower.

The beds have been cleaned. The 2010 garden has ended.

Fall Harvest

Broccoli heads ready for harvest just before the snow.

Cauliflower is later this year. Last year I had mature heads at Thanksgiving. This is not a fully matured head.

I am pulling all of the beets that remain from the second crop. The forecast temperatures for the next 6 days shows that the daily high will only be in the mid 30's. Today is December 4, 2010.

Harvest just before the snow. 14 heads of broccoli, 4 cabbage, a bucket of beets, and the 2nd head of cauliflower. I also cut 2 - 5 gallon buckets of curly kale and 2 of turnip greens.

Fall Harvest

Cutting winter greens. The yield was 3 -5 gallon buckets of curly kale and 2 -5 gallon buckets of Seven Top turnip (less) greens.
Final job of the day was to pick all the tomatoes and peppers. Then take down the support frames, and pull up the old plant stalks.

Fall Garden

October 17Th....broccoli, cauliflower, curly kale, and cabbage.

The broccoli heads are growing. It will be the middle of November before there will be cauliflower heads.

A nice bed of beets that are ready to pull.

The Roma tomatoes will cut loose and fall when they just start turning. They have been the best this year.

I am picking my tomatoes as they begin to turn.

This has not been a good tomato year. My big tomatoes have split and run all season. The Roma have done just find.
